These two poems are so uplifting and speak very euphemistically to the immense challenges she surely faced as an African American intellectual in the Harlem Renaissance of the 1920s. But also to this gently gorgeous, feminine softness in transcending everything. They very much resonated with me on many levels. When I Rise Up is such a gentle yet powerful infusion of soaring about travails to see the eagle eye view of life as a beautiful, chaotic dance."
